There are some caveats, however. Aging 195-horsepower V6 is struggling to motivate such a heavy vehicle and easily defeated by a more powerful and efficient V6s offered by the competition. Work Truck trim level is particularly dull compared to the inviting interior more visible on the base model Ram and Toyota trucks. Finally, a large turning radius hamper maneuverability, something which became evident in every parking lot.

Work slim (or WT) is limited to basic needs, including air conditioning (version extended- and cabin crew), trip computer, tilt steering wheel, OnStar telematics, vinyl seating, 40/20/40 front bench -split and sound system four speakers with auxiliary audio jack. LS adds full power accessories, keyless entry, cruise control, CD player, satellite radio and adjustable lumbar support for the driver.

LT trim includes premium cloth seats, lockable compartment with an outlet built into the center cushion split front seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The LTZ piles on top of 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control dual-zone (in extended and crew cab), an exclusive dash design with wood and metallic accents, leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable heated front bucket seats, driver- seat memory settings, Bluetooth, remote engine start and a Bose audio system with six-disc CD changer, USB / iPod interface and rear audio controls.

The standard 4.3-liter V6 produces 195 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque. LS trim buyers can upgrade to the 4.8-liter V8 rated at 302 hp and 305 lb-ft, 5.3-liter or V8 good for 315 hp and 335 lb-ft. Biggest engine is a 6.2-liter V8 cranking out 403 hp and 417 lb-ft of peak torque. LT trim, depending on body style, will have one of two small V8s as standard, while the 5.3-liter standard on LTZ. The 6.2-liter is available as an option on certain models.

The base model will not stimulate the senses but to meet the needs of owners who want to work only durability and not have to worry about flushing out the mud, if necessary. Features comfort along with fit and finish improve greatly when moving up to the more popular trim level and upscale.

The navigation system offers easy to read display and fast response time. Heated and ventilated bucket seats are offered only on the LTZ trim levels, but otherwise very easy to get a comfortable driving position with available power-adjustable pedals. The model has a comfortable crew cabin rear bench seat 60/40 split with a flip-up seat cushion that provides a nearly flat load floor. Interior storage is merely adequate, with small cupholders and haphazard center console organization.
